Ecoship to visit Fiji for the Pacific Transport Forum

The Pacific Islands Transport Forum will be held in the University of the South Pacific.

The University of the South Pacific in Suva, Fiji, will be hosting the Pacific Islands Transport Forum and Expo from November 8-10. This event has the goal to further the discussion on decarbonization of the transport sector in the Pacific in support of the 1.5-degree climate goal. Peace Boat will be present in this exhibition to introduce Ecoship, the most sustainable cruise ship in the world.

The Forum will bring Ministers, senior officials, private sector representatives, and partners together to discuss the future of the marine and land transport sectors in Pacific Island countries.

It will establish a process for setting national 2030 and 2050 transport targets to reduce emissions and the use of fossil fuels, as well as develop a process for national roadmaps to transform the sector.

The ultimate aim of the forum is to align the Pacific with global ambition and ensure transportation will be part of the Nationally determined contributions (NDCs) and eligible for climate support.

The first meeting of the forum will be co-hosted by the COP23 Presidency alongside the government of the Marshall Islands.
