Ecoship travels to Florida for the Opal Impact Investing Conference

The Opal Forum brought together hundreds of people from the private sector and civil society.

The Ecoship team travelled to the USA to participate in the Opal Impact Investing Forum. The conference brought together hundreds of people from the private sector and civil society, and took place in the seaside town of Boca Raton, Florida, from April 23-25.

Leading figures in the financial and philanthropic sectors discussed a wide range of prominent issues, including how to use Impact Investments to address today’s most pressing social and environmental issues.

Top influencers, investors, money managers, foundations, social enterprises, and service providers spoke of their commitment to use capitalism as a force for good, and emphasized the importance of cross-sector partnerships to achieve large-scale impact.  Several of the event’s speakers highlighted the fierce urgency of now to address today’s most pressing issues. The consensus: trillions of dollars need to be mobilized to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Specific impact investing strategies were discussed around homelessness and foster care, education, gender and minority empowerment, green technology, and renewable energies. The Ecoship Project was presented as an innovative and high-impact initiative to tackle climate change, and lead the transition towards greener shipping and tourism sectors. The Ecoship representatives used this opportunity to raise awareness of the SDGs.
