Peace Boat visits Sweden and introduces its Ecoship Project in Gothenburg

Gothenburg

Peace Boat will visit the port of Gothenburg on Saturday, May 28, as part of its 91st Global Voyage for Peace. In Sweden, the Japan-based NGO will share their inspirational project of creating the world’s first environmentally sustainable cruise ship, the Ecoship. It will be in a joint seminar and press conference with the Swedish Network for Sustainable Tourism Schyst resande.

Schyst resande is a network of seven organizations – Unionen, Fair Action, the Swedish Hotel and Restaurant Workers Union, the Church of Sweden, Church of Sweden Youth, IOGT-NTO and Union to Union. The network highlights various aspects of tourism and provides a holistic approach to sustainable tourism. The organizations in the network are all involved in Human Rights issues related to tourism and travelling from different perspectives.

The goal of this event is to raise awareness of the environmental impact of the cruise industry and present a viable alternative. It will be held as part of Green Week “Investing for a greener future” organized by the European Commission.
