Peace Boat and Ecoship travel to Bali for Our Ocean Conference
Next week, Peace Boat and Ecoship will attend Our Ocean, the conference on the oceans which is this year organized by the Government of the Republic of Indonesia on 29 and 30 October 2018 in Bali. Our Ocean Conference is focused on generating commitments and taking actions to maintain the sustainability of our oceans.
Since 2014, this conference has successfully generated commitments totaling around 18 billion dollars (USD) and 12.4 million square kilometers of marine protected areas. Our Ocean Conference 2018 will demonstrate significant progress on past commitments and inspire new commitments made for the continuation of more concerted and integrated actions for protecting the oceans. During the conference, Peace Boat will introduce Ecoship as a flagship for ocean and climate action and the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
On October 29, Peace Boat will organize a side event called ‘From Awareness Raising to Action for Our Ocean and Climate: Peace Boat Ecoship”. This event will center around Peace Boat’s commitment to maintaining the sustainability of our oceans with Ecoship and the Ocean and Climate Youth Ambassador programme as leading examples. Peace Boat is honoured to have as presenters, Dr. Sylvia Earle, National Geographic Explorer in Residence and founder of Mission Blue; Melati and Isabel Wijsen, founders of Bye Bye Plastic Bags; and Daniela Fernandez, founder, and CEO from the Sustainable Ocean Alliance (SOA). The event will take place at the Conference Room Mengwi 5, at the Bali Dua Convention Center from 12.30 to 14.00.
During the conference, Peace Boat will have a booth in the convention center to showcase Ecoship and some of the main programmes of the organization. As an integral part of the Our Ocean Conference, the Government of the Republic of Indonesia and the Sustainable Ocean Alliance will co-host the third Our Ocean, Our Legacy Youth Leadership Summit. Peace Boat and Ecoship will be also present in this summit to showcase our activities to save our ocean.
Our Ocean Conference 2018 will convene participants from countries across the globe to ensure diverse perspectives from various stakeholders, including governments, commercial sectors, financing entities, scientific communities, civil society organizations, and young leaders. Heads of States, Ministers, and champions from various backgrounds will also be invited to influence concrete and actionable commitments to preserve the oceans’ health.
